Elin, what a beautiful article and a delicate explanation of this gift and art form. I am 72 and have been seeking what I want to do since retirement. You have blown on an ember within me today.
Decades ago I embroidered and then, life😊.
I am going to embroidery again🥰. The excitement you deposited with your words and visuals is just what I believe I have been looking for.
Yay!! Embroidery is so soothing and I’m sure you’ll fall in love again! You’re not alone in your story as it’s very similar to a majority of our students, life tends to happen doesn’t it?
As it’s been a long time I invite you to check out our free beginners course first, which you can find here:
Elin, thank you for your encouragement 😊. I have somethings to finish up in this season snd then I am going to visit family. When I will return I will check out the free course. May He bless the work of your hands.😊
Embroidery is tactile and beyond rewarding! From the unlimited color selection of the floss to include hand dyed floss, and the fact you can carry it anywhere, make it one of only a few art forms that are easily transportable. Best of all is learning from you that it does not have to be complicated. Learning just a few stitches is all you need to create incredible art. I just returned from a trip and I brought a clear plastic bag with my small hoop, my embroidery, and a tiny pair of scissors, floss, and TSA didn't even look at it as it went through their scanner.
Thank you Deb!! And I’m so happy you bring this up, it definitely doesn’t have to be complicated yet some tend to make it so! The transparent bag is such a brilliant tip thank you ✨🫶🏼
I grew up watching my grandma embroidered roses and birds when she can. I used to watching the whole process until I see a beautiful roses or birds come to life on white fabric which became a pillowcase. I never learn.
Lovely article. I did traditional embroidery and cross stitch years ago but moved on to other things. Then during the pandemic I started embroidering again and it is now a major part of my creative practice. I love the freedom and creativity of modern embroidery - I agree that no counting is liberating! It is also very meditative- so easy to loose yourself in the rhythm of the stitching.
Oh yes!! I lose myself frequently, it’s funny how it’s such a mindful and mindless practice at the same time… I can do it while my mind is occupied with other things but also use it to focus my mind on my stitching… I just love it 🫶🏼
