Stitch where your needle takes you; Stitch Camp #4
Week two of summer stitch camp has started and we're about to enter true FLOW
Hi there!
Who else LOVES being in creative flow? 🙋🏼♀️
To be in flow is probably one of the greatest feeling when you’re a creative person, just like not being in flow can feel incredibly frustrating!
Flow means that things flow with ease, effortlessly and joyfully. When in flow we can get more done within an hour than we get within a whole day when flow isn’t there.
I’ve always found creative flow super fascinating and love exploring with ways to get in flow “on demand”.
Just like inspiration, flow tends to happen when we least expect it. That said, there are still ways to stimulate the creative juices to start flowing more easily. The main thing is to DO SOMETHING.
The 6 workshops in the Summer Stitch Camp are all designed to get you out of the rut and INTO creative flow!!
And to kick off the second week of the camp, today’s workshop is even more explicit in letting it all loose and focus solely on FLOW.
How to get into flow?
You’ll be invited to bring out a piece of scrap fabric and leftover floss. Being resourceful with what we have makes it both fun and useful in the same time (win-win)!
In the previous workshops we’ve focused on texture, “scrapbooking” and rounded shapes. And today we’ll take it a step further with the stitch prompt:
Stitch where your needle takes you.
Whether it’s rounded shapes, straight lines, French knots or running stitch doesn’t matter! The key is to try and say YES to whatever stitch your hand tries to intuitively make.
You’ll see me make a bunch of running stitches as it’s what was flowing the easiest from my hand on the day of filming (most likely inspired from the Sashiko course I was filming alongside the creative stitch camp).
The most fascinating with the experience was how difficult it felt at first to just “let go”.
I noticed how wired my brain is to create specific designs that I constantly had to remind myself that it doesn’t have to look like anything.
Come and give it a try!
